Honey is this week’s Fresh Pick of the Week from the Certified Farmers’ Market (all locations). Available from several local farms, the Honey you’ll find at the market is all locally-grown, grade A, pure, raw honey. Available filtered or unfiltered, it comes in several varieties – orange blossom, citrus, avocado, wild flower and more.
Humans have a long history with Honey, as evidenced by a cave painting, depicting honey gatherers in Valencia, Spain, that dates back over 8,000 years.
It is used in various foods and beverages as a sweetener and/or as a flavoring. It has also been used in religious rituals, and in various medicinal traditions to treat a variety of ailments. It was even used for embalming the dead in ancient Egypt and throughout the Middle East during ancient times.
Did you know: To produce a single jar of honey, foraging honey bees have to travel the equivalent of three times around the world.
