Locally Grown Ranier Cherries are the perfect way to celebrate Summer, and a delicious way to introduce this year’s Summer crop of California Stone Fruits. Ranier Cherries are also this week’s Fresh Pick of the Week from the Coachella Valley Certified Farmers’ Markets. Originally developed in 1952 at Washington State University (and named after Mount Ranier), Ranier Cherries are a hybrid of the Bing Cherry and the Van cherry cultivars. They are especially large yellow to gold cherries with blushes of bright red. The flesh is yellow and super sweet. In fact, Ranier Cherries are considered by most people to be the sweetest, prettiest and most pampered of cherries of all.
Did You Know: It’s not only people who like Ranier Cherries. Despite the best efforts of farmers, birds consume up to a third of the annual crop.
Price: $6 per bag
