Fresh Pick of the Week from the Certified Farmers' Market!

Pay homage to mom this Mother’s Day with a bouquet of Sunflowers – this week’s Fresh Pick of the Week from the Certified Farmers’ Markets. Named after their huge, fiery blooms, whose shape and image is often used to depict the sun, Sunflowers are native to the Americas, and are thought to have been first domesticated in what is now Mexico. There, they were worshipped as symbols of the Solar Deity by many of Mesoamerica’s indigenous peoples, and although we don’t worship them today, Sunflowers are still beautiful and majestic flowers. Ours are locally grown by Arriaga Farms, and come to us each week, fresh-picked from their flower farm in Riverside.
