Certified Farmers' Market

Fresh Pick of the Week from the Certified Farmers' Market!

Heirloom Tomatoes are this week’s Fresh Pick of the Week from the Certified Farmers’ Markets. Available from several local farms, Heirloom Tomatoes continue to gain popularity at Farmers’ Markets and other outlets, both because of their variety, and because of their superior flavor. Heirloom Tomatoes, which vary in size, color, shape, texture and flavor, are prized by chefs and home cooks alike. A few varieties have begun to appear in Super Markets, but because Heirloom Tomatoes are not bred for their ability to be stored and shipped, the very best place to find them remains the local farmers’ market (where they also tend to be less expensive).

DID YOU KNOW: There are literally hundreds of varieties of Heirloom Tomatoes. Several of the most popular Heirloom Tomato seed catalogs offer more than 600 different types of Heirloom Tomato seeds!

Price: Varies by variety, but generally $3 per pound and up

Also in Season, and available now at all locations: Potatoes, Celery, Green Onions, FRESH and DRIED Herbs, Eggs, Dates, Almonds, Oranges, Grapefruit, Chard, Eggplant, Squash, Onions, Garlic, Apples, Shallots, Beets, Green Beans, Carrots, Tomatoes, Green Tomatoes, Peppers, Lettuces, Parsley, Mint, Broccoli, Cabbage, Spinach, Radishes, Leeks, Brussels Sprouts, Asparagus, Cherimoyas, Dates . . . .
