Certified Farmers Market Fresh Pick of the week: Fresh Herbs!
March 2, 2009, Palm Springs, CA
- Herbs are this week’s Fresh Pick from the Certified Farmers’ Market. We use them for a variety of purposes ranging from culinary to medicinal to spiritual. Some we treasure for their flavor. Others we treasure for their fragrance. Some grow like weeds, and others are quite particular about their growing habits. And while each of us has our favorites, the one thing we all agree on is that they are best when fresh, or freshly picked. A variety of fresh herbs, all pesticide free, and mostly organic, are available at all three market locations. Choose from fresh Basil, Oregano, Rosemary, Thyme, Lavender, and more.
Did you know:
An Herb is any type of plant that is valued for its flavor, fragrance, or medicinal properties. Although defined in botanical terms as as herbaceous (non-woody) plants, common usage includes woody plants (like Rosemary and Lavender, which are woody shrubs), trees (such as Bay Laurel), and even root vegetables (such as Garlic or Ginger). Herbs were the first form of medicine; used by prehistoric cultures throughout the world. They were also among the first non-food plants to be cultivated by ancient cultures.
Varies by type.
